CONSERVATORY BLINDS
Blinds are manufactured at our workshops in England. A small family-run business, this has specialized in the manufacture of conservatory blinds for decades, ensuring the finest quality and service. Blinds are best ordered with the conservatory, although, if a client is not sure if they want them, then you may suggest that they wait a season to see how the conservatory reacts. Sometimes it is not necessary to have blinds over the whole roof, depending on whether there is other shade offered to the conservatory. However, you may consider that even if it is not required from a functional point of view, from a visual point of view, having the whole roof covered would look better.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
In summer, blinds reduce the temperature and glare within a conservatory.
In winter, and in the evening, blinds help insulate and give a feeling of comfort and privacy.
At all times, blinds add to the decoration of the room.
When the sun is out, the temperature within a conservatory can rise by as much as 10 degrees. As the sun goes in, especially in the evening, the temperature can drop as quickly as it rose. Blinds help to reduce the fluctuations in temperature to provide a comfortable temperature within the conservatory.
Large areas of glass will let in more light than conventional building methods. In summer, particularly at midday, the glare can be considerable. Blinds help to protect both furniture and people from UV rays.
THE RANGE
We offer a choice of both manual and electrically operated blinds, in two materials, Energi Fabric and Pinoleum.
a) Energi Fabric
This is a Swedish invention, and is designed for energy control. In summer, heat gain is reduced by up to 84% on double glazed windows. In winter, this figure is 50%.The triple layer fabric is light wieght, and consists of aluminum, plastic film and polyester. Its light weight, means that it doesn't typically sag. Its construction makes it durable and long lasting.
The blinds are manufactured as roller blinds, and you will typically find one blind per roof glass unit. However, on triangular units, you may have one blind covering two units. For electrically operated blinds, each blind has its own motor discretely hidden within the roller.
Manual blinds are operated using cords and pulleys. The cords are fastened around brass cleats (brass is standard, although white and brown are available).
Cassettes are available to hide the rollers, and can be colored in either white or brown as standard, or to a color of your choice (a cost for this will be provided on request).
b) Pinoleum
Pinoleum blinds have a Colonial feeling similar to wicker furniture. Pinoleum has been manufactured in France for over 100 years, and is sewn with a special tape that will not degrade in sunlight.
The blinds come in a range of styles, from narrow canes to wider flat slats. There is a range of historical colors, which have been chosen from Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian paint samples.
Typically, pinoleum blinds are operated as Roman blinds, due to the fact that if they were roller blinds, then the size of the rolled up blind would be too large to accommodate. Again, there would be a blind per roof glass unit (in hardwood conservatories, these blinds would be fitted between the rafters).
Manual blinds are operated using a long pole, which has a hook that fits through an eye. You then push or pull the blinds up and down.
c) Electrically Operated Blinds
Automated systems use Somfy, the world leader in specialist power units for blinds.
Each blind has its own motor, which is hooked up using low voltage wiring. The motors can be controlled by either wall switches or remote control.
